Our print books are located in the Basement in our compact shelving (meaning the shelving compacts so we can store more books in a smaller footprint). Ebooks are available in digital format wherever you and your computer device are connected. You can search for print books and eBooks using our Discovery Search tool. Ebook collections can also be searched via eBook databases.
The Discovery Search will search everything held by the Catawba College library AND libraries worldwide. If Catawba does not have a specific book or article, we may be able to get it for via an InterLibrary Loan request that you complete and submit to us. It takes anywhere from 24-48 hours or more for articles and significantly longer for physical books which come through the US Mail. Ebooks cannot be loaned via InterLibrary loan due to publisher restrictions and copyright issues.
Catawba's Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service allows you to borrow books and get copies of articles that the college does not have. Our ILL office will identify a library that owns the material that you need, request the material for you, and then notify you when it arrives. Books will be on loan for a period of time set by the other library. Articles usually arrive electronically. These are yours to keep.
Place an ILL request through the library catalog by first searching for the item that you need. If Catawba does not own the item or have access to it, you will see the following message: "This item isn't held in your library system, but it is held by other WorldCat Libraries." Click on the blue "Request item through interlibrary loan" box to begin your request.
For more information, including a brief tutorial, see the ILL page.
