The Alcorn Digital Learning Lab is an active learning space that uses digital tools and pedagogy to enhance and support both classroom and independent learning. Part of the Corriher-Linn-Black Library, we serve students, faculty and staff .
The Digital Tools
The lab features many hands-on digital tools and computer equipment. We offer students the options to 3D print, engrave on a variety of materials, laminate, create and design using the Surface Studio, or iPad Pros. Students can create podcasts or shoot and edit video with special effects using the iMac in the Cat-U Studio. Students can also experiment with augmented, virtual or mixed reality using the AR headsets or even a simple app to augment any kind of trigger image (poster, 3D creation, etc.)
The lab also features 2 Surface Hubs that allow students or small classes to brainstorm, conduct virtual meetings or create including documents, spreadsheets, databases, slideshows, websites, infographics or even stage designs or lighting designs for theater productions.
The space also includes makerspace tools like the Makey-Makey which allows students to learn about coding using gaming or music and Little Bits to enable students to understand electrical circuits and create tools using critical thinking, design and hands-on engagement.
